EXP 2: Image Captures and Architecture

There is a clear connection between the aforementioned chosen combined axonometric sketch and the final architecture of the light rail station with the juxtaposition of a curved ribbon-like canopy over an asymmetrical rectilinear structure made of glass and timber.

The concept of sustainability is displayed by the abundance of greenery not only surrounding but incorporated into the final architecture. The use of multiple openings and large glass panels show passive design and encourages the use of natural lighting.

The canopy, being an amalgamation of modules, conveys a sense of innovation and a contemporary style of internationalist architecture. This allows the light rail station to blend into its urban context as a sophisticated monumental structure.

Numerous free-flowing and sensual parabolic curves are used to create the canopy; as well as passageways that connect various spaces which reflect the design philosophy of Oscar Niemeyer.

Natural light is carefully controlled through the perforated mesh-like canopy and glass is used prolifically. This is reminiscent of Kazuyo Sejima's design philosophy.

EXP 2: 36 custom textures

These three textures were chosen to be incorporated into the final model as they resemble real life materials the most and show an interesting array of textural and tonal contrast.

EXP 2: Combined Axonometric Sketches

This developed axonometric drawing was chosen because of the interesting juxtaposition between the rectilinear and curvilinear form. The ribbon-like shape connotes to an overarching canopy structure that the light rail can pass through, whereas the prism acts as a space for passengers to board.

EXP1: Final Model Animations

My final model consists of a lantern-like shape serving as Miyake's upstairs workshop. The industrial looking spiral staircase leads down to a donut shaped translucent showroom connected to a long walkway. This whole area serves as a showroom with cylindrical and rectangular glass cases used to display the artist's works. The 'X' shaped latticework adds structural interest to the building. The water level acts as a datum. Bourgeois's spherical workshop is submerged underwater connoting to a more inward looking environment as most of her works are considered to reflect private sentiment. The long walkway connects the workshops and central showroom to the shore with a sense of grandeur. A grey tinted glass was chosen so that natural light could reach the interiors of the building but also to clearly show visitors the idea of the building having a datum level. I imported my 'corrugated' and 'expanding' material texture to the model to give the exterior a slightly rugged yet contemporary facade. Although I was not fully able to express my ideas through my model due to lack of experience with the software, I am overall very satisfied with my final model as I feel as though not only does it reflect the concept of a datum in an intriguing way, the workshops accommodate and mirror each artist's design philosophy.
